V teoretičnem delu smo predstavili vlogo matematike v vrtcu, razvoj matematičnega mišljenja ter pomen igre, raziskovalnega učenja in uporabe konkretnih didaktičnih sredstev. Posebej smo izpostavili geoploščo kot sredstvo, ki omogoča otrokom razumljivo in izkustveno spoznavanje geometrijskih pojmov. V praktičnem delu smo zasnovali dejavnost z geoploščo in raziskovali, kako otroci uporabljajo geoploščo pri ustvarjanju motivov po predlogah in po lastni domišljiji, kako z njeno pomočjo prepoznavajo, oblikujejo in poimenujejo osnovne geometrijske like. Pri tem so uspešno prepoznavali in oblikovali osnovne geometrijske like.

Title:Mathematical activities with geoboard in preschool period
Abstract:The thesis examines the importance of mathematical activities in early childhood education, with a particular emphasis on the use of the geoboard as a didactic tool. The theoretical part presents the role of mathematics in kindergarten, the development of mathematical thinking, and the importance of play, inquiry-based learning, and concrete teaching materials. Special attention is given to the geoboard as a tool that enables children to acquire geometric concepts in an accessible and experiential way. In the empirical part, activities using the geoboard were designed and implemented. The study explored how children use the geoboard when creating patterns based on given models and their own imagination, as well as how they recognize, construct, and name basic geometric shapes. The research was based on six mathematical activities with children aged 5 to 6 years. The results indicate that children used the geoboard in various ways, both when following models and during independent creation. They successfully recognized and constructed basic geometric shapes. However, in more demanding tasks, such as symmetry, certain difficulties were observed, indicating the gradual development of these abilities. The findings suggest that the geoboard is an effective and engaging tool for fostering mathematical thinking in early childhood education.
