Abstract:Diplomska naloga obravnava področje učenja tujega jezika v predšolskem obdobju in njegovo umeščenost v slovenski prostor. Namen naloge je bil preučiti teoretična izhodišča zgodnjega učenja tujega jezika (TJ) ter raziskati stališča vodstvenih delavcev o njegovi smiselnosti, organizaciji, izvedbi in sistemskih pogojih. V teoretičnem delu so predstavljena dosedanja spoznanja o večjezičnosti in pomenu zgodnje izpostavljenosti TJ.

Title:Preschool managers' perspectives on teaching foreign languages in kindergarten
Abstract:The thesis addresses foreign language (FL) learning in early childhood education and its integration into the Slovenian educational context. The aim of the thesis was to examine the theoretical foundations of early FL learning and to explore the views of preschool leaders on its relevance, organization, implementation, and systemic conditions. The theoretical part presents findings on multilingualism and the importance of early exposure to a foreign language. It discusses the development and practice of early FL learning in Europe and Slovenia, as well as the objectives, principles, and organization of teaching within the Slovenian context. Attention is given to didactic principles based on developmentally appropriate practice, play-based learning, and the integration of language into everyday activities. The role of preschool teachers and leadership staff in ensuring the high-quality implementation of FL activities in kindergartens is also highlighted. The empirical part is based on a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with preschool leaders. The results indicate that most participants view early FL learning as meaningful and developmentally justified. They emphasize the importance of professionally qualified staff, appropriate organization, cooperation with parents, and integrating language learning through play and daily routines. The main challenges identified include funding, staffing limitations, scheduling activities, and the need for stronger systemic support. The thesis contributes to a better understanding of the organizational and pedagogical aspects of FL learning at the preschool level and opens opportunities for further research and the systematic development of this field.
