Title:The impact of ball-based exercise on the motor efficiency of preschool children
Abstract:Due to the brain's plasticity, the preschool years are crucial for improving children's motor abilities and skill acquisition, as well as for enhancing their health; in the long term, this promotes a healthy lifestyle. In a study aimed at determining the impact of ball-based exercise on children's motor efficiency, we investigated whether additional ball-based exercise affects the motor efficiency of children aged 4–6 years, comprising a group of 48 children from two preschools. We performed a 6-week program in the experimental group, while in the control group, from the other kindergarten, we did not carry out such exercises. To assess the children's motor efficiency, the standardized MOT4-6 test was used. Analysis of the results showed an improvement in the motor quotient in the experimental group with the structured ball exercises included in the program we performed. Progress was greater within the group, which means that this type of exercise is important and recommended and can significantly contribute to the development of motor abilities and skill learning, as there was a statistically significant difference between the first and second testing of the experimental group. The findings also show that there was no statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups, and we attributed the children's progress to natural motor development and the motor activities included in the group's annual work plan. Nevertheless, we can conclude that structured ball exercises according to the program had a significant impact on the children's motor efficiency.
