Abstract:Namen magistrske naloge je bil raziskati povezanost telesne samopodobe in rezultatov telesnega fitnesa pri učencih četrtega in petega razreda osnovne šole. Podatke smo obdelali z metodami deskriptivne in inferenčne statistike. Dečki so v povprečju poročali o višji telesni samopodobi kot deklice, kar potrjuje ugotovitve drugih raziskav o večji kritičnosti deklic do svojega telesa že v zgodnjem otroštvu.

Title:The association between physical self-concept and SLOfit battery scores in fourth and fifth grade students
Abstract:The aim of this master's thesis was to investigate the relationship between physical self-concept and physical fitness outcomes among fourth- and fifth-grade primary school pupils. The study focused on examining whether statistically significant differences exist in the perception of physical self-concept among pupils with different levels of physical fitness, as well as differences in physical self-concept between boys and girls. The sample included 136 pupils from the second educational period of two primary schools in the Dolenjska region. A convenience non-probability sample was used. The research was based on a quantitative research approach and employed an empirical non-experimental research method. Data on physical fitness were obtained from the SLOfit system, while data on physical self-concept were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 18 statements divided into five content domains: general self-concept, physical self-concept, endurance, sports competence, and strength. Participants responded using a six-point Likert scale. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to determine differences between groups according to the level of physical fitness. The results showed that pupils with higher levels of physical fitness perceived their physical self-concept more positively than pupils with lower levels of physical fitness, particularly in the areas of sports competence, physical endurance, and physical appearance. On average, boys reported higher levels of physical self-concept than girls, which is consistent with findings from previous studies indicating greater body-related self-criticism among girls already in early childhood. The findings confirm that physical fitness and physical self-concept are closely related in primary school children. Schools therefore play an important role, as appropriately planned physical activity can positively influence pupils' body-related self-perception, especially among those with lower levels of physical fitness. The findings provide an important basis for considering adaptations to the physical education process and encourage the planning of activities that contribute to the development of children's physical and psychological well-being.
