Sprva smo v teoretičnem delu opredelili koncept krožnega gospodarstva, predstavili ključne modele in kazalnike ter analizirali razvoj politik krožnega gospodarstva v Evropski uniji.

Title:Empirical analysis of the determinants of the circular economy in European Union countries
Abstract:The main purpose of this thesis is to conduct an econometric analysis of the determinants influencing the circular economy in the countries of the European Union. In the theoretical part, we first defined the concept of the circular economy, presented its key models and indicators, and analysed the development of circular economy policies within the European Union. Special attention was devoted to the circular material use rate indicator, which represents the central measure of the level of circularity in the economy. Furthermore, we reviewed previous empirical research in the field of the circular economy and identified the most important factors influencing its successful implementation. In the empirical part, we analysed the impact of selected economic and environmental factors on the circular economy, using the circular material use rate as the dependent variable. The analysis was conducted for the years 2014 and 2022 using the ordinary least squares method. For both analysed years, we examined the adequacy of the model specification and subsequently verified the validity of the assumptions of the ordinary least squares method. The results show that expenditure on research and development has the strongest impact on the circular material use rate, proving to be the most important factor in promoting the circular economy in both analysed years. In addition, domestic material consumption, the amount of waste generation, and the number of employees in the circular sectors also have a statistically significant effect on the circular economy. In line with the findings of previous studies, we found a positive impact of expenditure on research and development, the amount of generated waste, and the number of employees in the circular economy sectors on the circular use of materials. In contrast, domestic material consumption was found to have statistically significant negative effects.
Keywords:econometric analysis, ordinary least squares method, circular economy, circular material use rate, European Union countries.
