Botanični popisi so bili izvedeni spomladi, pred prvo košnjo oziroma pašo, v letih 2019–2023.

Title:Botanical Composition of Semi-Natural Grasslands in Northeastern Slovenia in Relation to Cutting Regime and Altitude
Abstract:The study was conducted at 36 grassland sites on 21 farms. Botanical surveys were carried out between 2019 and 2023 in spring, before the first mowing or grazing. The thesis examines the effects of management regime (P – pasture; PK – combined grazing and mowing; 2K – two-cut meadow; 3K – three-cut meadow) and altitude (<300 m, 300–600 m, and >600 m) on the botanical composition and plant diversity of semi-natural grasslands in northeastern Slovenia. For each plant species, its proportion in the sward was estimated, and the species were classified into three functional groups: grasses, legumes, and forbs. Plant diversity was evaluated using species richness (S), the Shannon diversity index (H), Simpson’s index (D), Simpson’s diversity index (D1), Simpson’s dominance index (D2), and evenness (E). The results indicate that the management regime had a stronger effect on botanical composition and diversity index values than altitude. The highest proportion of grasses was recorded under the PK management, the highest proportion of legumes in 3K meadows, and the highest proportion of forbs in 2K meadows. A less intensive management (2K) resulted in the greatest plant diversity, the highest Shannon diversity index, and the greatest evenness, whereas PK management was associated with lower diversity and greater dominance of individual plant species. Altitude mainly affected the occurrence of individual dominant species, while its effect on the overall ratio between functional groups was smaller. The results suggest that moderate grassland management helps maintain a botanically diverse and balanced sward composition. Less intensive management is also important for the sustainable management of semi-natural grasslands from both a production and nature conservation perspective.
