Abstract:Namen magistrskega dela je bil, s primerjavo različnih kurikulov ugotoviti pomen in smiselnost uvedbe obveznega predmeta računalništva v slovenskih osnovnih šolah.

Title:Computer science in Primary schools: European trends and Slovenian reality
Abstract:The aim of this master's thesis was to examine the significance and justification for introducing Computer Science as a compulsory subject in Slovenian primary schools through a comparative analysis of different curricula. The study employed a qualitative research approach based on semi-structured interviews conducted with principals, teachers, and school counsellors from six primary schools. The research questions focused on educational professionals' competence in the use of information and communication technology (ICT), their views on different models of Computer Science education, the organisational, staffing, and curricular challenges associated with introducing a new compulsory subject, as well as effective practices for improving pupils' Computer Science literacy. The findings indicate that educational professionals recognise the importance of Computer Science and generally support its introduction as a compulsory subject. The main benefits identified include the systematic development of digital competences and computational thinking, as well as providing pupils with equal opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills required in the digital age. The greatest challenges identified were the shortage of appropriately qualified teachers, the need for continuous professional development, and the organisational and curricular adjustments required for successful implementation. The study also found that the early introduction of Computer Science concepts, cross-curricular integration, project-based learning, and continuous teacher professional development are effective approaches to improving pupils' Computer Science literacy. The findings confirm that the systematic integration of Computer Science into the primary school curriculum represents an important direction for contemporary education. However, its successful implementation requires adequate professional, organisational, and staffing support.
