Abstract:Diplomsko delo obravnava management in management človeških virov na primeru vaterpolskega kluba AVK Branik Maribor.

Title:Management and human resource management of the sports club avk branik maribor
Abstract:This thesis examines management and human resource management in the case of the water polo club AVK Branik Maribor. The theoretical part presents the fundamental concepts of management (planning, organizing, leading and controlling) and human resource management (recruitment and selection, training and development, motivation and performance appraisal), with particular attention paid to the specific characteristics of smaller, predominantly volunteer-run sports organizations. In the applied part, an in-depth semi-structured interview with the club’s president was used to analyse the actual functioning of AVK Branik Maribor - its organizational structure, style of leadership and decision-making, sources of funding and the key challenges it faces. The findings show that the club’s management relies primarily on the high personal commitment of a small number of volunteers, who through their own business connections provide roughly two-thirds of the club’s annual funds, while public funding and membership fees cover the remainder. The club’s central challenge is securing stable, long-term funding, compounded by the structural challenge of retaining players after they finish their studies. Based on these findings, recommendations were developed for improving the club’s organization, leadership and funding.
