Title:USE OF GAME MECHANICS IN STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AT THE FACULTY
Abstract:The thesis concerns the phenomenon called gamification in student organizations on the Faculty of organizational sciences. Theoretical part covers the basic necessary knowledge for understanding the concept. First, we define games and other associated terms and then segment gamification into game mechanics and game dynamics. Furthermore, we present all student associations working within the faculty. In the practical part we first investigate the frequency of encountering with game mechanics among individual student associations, then measure the impact of gamification on student motivation and assume a connection between games and the importance of gamification elements. We found out, that students from individual organizations tend to be less familiar with game mechanics elements with the exception of Student organization of Faculty of organizational sciences and AIESEC. The survey also shows that game elements, connected with relationships in organizations (individual compliments and cooperation), motivate students more. The main reason for students to join extracurricular activities lies in prospect of gaining new knowledge and competences, networking and gaining new experience. On the other hand, students are not motivated by elements like competition among representatives and punishment, random gifts or leaderboards. Last part of the survey shows, that there is no strong connection between the frequency of engaging with games and the perception of individual game mechanics elements. We conclude that systems of student organizations on the Faculty of organizational sciences can be gamified to an extent. We just have to be careful to consider the elements, which student find more important and focus on them.
