Abstract:Diplomsko delo z naslovom Modeli ulomkov v predšolskem obdobju predstavlja v teoretičnem delu zgodnji koncept vključevanja ulomkov v predšolsko obdobje s pomočjo treh modelov ulomkov: geometrijski model, merljivi model in aritmetični model.

Title:Models of Fractions in Preschool
Abstract:In the theoretical part of the thesis titled Models of Fractions in Preschool, I presented the early concept of incorporating fractions in preschool with the help of three models of fractions, i.e., the Area Model, the Linear Model, and the Set Model. The role of the preschool teacher was also described, along with some examples of parts-of-a-whole activities. The aim of the thesis was to establish how familiar preschool children are with parts of a whole, how successful they are in the activities where a specific model is used, and which model suits them best. For this purpose, a research was conducted, including 33 children aged between four and six. Using various activities, I examined the understanding of halves, thirds, and quarters according to the aforementioned models of fractions. The data gathered by using an observation sheet showed that halves were not problematic with any model, whereas most problems occurred in understanding thirds with the Area and the Linear models. Incorporating activities based on models of fractions proved to be suitable for preschool children; they showed great interest for it although this is a rather difficult mathematical topic.
