Title:Spelling Errors in Official Invitations by Kindergarten Teachers from the Primorska Region
Abstract:This paper, titled Spelling Errors in Official Invitations by Kindergarten Teachers from the Primorska Region, comprises a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, we presented communication skills comprising language skills with their subtypes and pragmatic skills. We also portrayed the education of preschool teachers on all Slovenian faculties of education and the subjects in which future preschool teachers develop their language skills. The last section of the theoretical part of the thesis consists of two chapters relating to letters and invitations, addressing orthographic themes, specifically the most common mistakes made when writing such texts. In the empirical part, we wanted to determine types of grammatical mistakes present in formal invitations. Our research included preschool teachers from the Primorska region. The data were extracted from invitations to a meeting with parents, a parent-teacher conference, sent by preschool teachers to parents. Furthermore, we wanted to find whether the number and type of grammatical mistakes depend on the age of preschool teachers. We have found that orthographic mistakes most commonly appear when writing dates, time, greeting, closing salutation, and signatures. Some texts also lack the fundamental pieces of text entirely (greeting and/or closing salutation).
Keywords:orthographic competence/abilty, education of preschool teachers, preschool teacher, invitation, Slovene orthography
