Title:Employment of former prisoners in contemporary society
Abstract:Employing former prisoners is key to their successful reintegration into society and reducing recidivism. Research shows that work plays an important role in reducing the risk of re-offending, as employed individuals often show greater stability and a lower risk of breaking the law. However, former prisoners face many challenges in finding employment, including stigmatisation, lack of trust from employers and insufficient job search support. The diploma thesis analyses the perception and treatment of former prisoners by employers and examines the legal framework for employing this group. The methodological approaches used include descriptive, compilation, comparative, and deductive methods. The results show that, despite the challenges, there is an increasing awareness and acceptance of former prisoners in the work environment, which improves their employment prospects. The study also highlights the importance of legal adaptations and employers' practices regarding criminal record checks and the provision of adaptations to facilitate the integration of former prisoners into the labour market. Employers' willingness to employ former prisoners is not uniform and often depends on specific factors such as the type of crime, the motivation of a former prisoner, and observable changes in his/her behaviour. Work habits, ability to cooperate and experience are key factors that can improve the employability of former prisoners.
