Title:Fairy tales and puppets: encouraging children's creative play and participation through storytelling and dialogic reading
Abstract:In my thesis, I researched the importance of puppets and dialogic reading in storytelling in preschool education and their impact on children's play in learning corners. The puppet proved to be a powerful motivational and educational tool that combines words, images, and movement, enabling children to become active co-creators of the story. In the practical part, we staged three fairy tales that we adapted into a dialogic form and observed how children re-enacted the story in play after the activities. The results showed that puppets and dialogic reading significantly promote children's language expression, cooperation, and creativity. In one of the adaptations, children demonstrated the richest linguistic expression; in the second, motor and sound expression developed more strongly; and in the third, children achieved the most comprehensive creative play using various didactic stimuli. Interviews with the teachers confirmed the observation that puppets increase children's motivation, understanding, and cooperation. We conclude that puppets and dialogic reading are an effective way to encourage imagination, language, and social learning in the preschool years.
