Title:The Mental Health and Psychological Resilience of Preschool Teachers in Adapted Early Childhood Special Education
Abstract:Working in adapted early childhood special education programs requires preschool teachers to demonstrate a high level of emotional involvement, adaptability, and the ability to cope with various work-related demands that may affect their mental health. The purpose of this master's thesis was to explore the mental health and psychological resilience of preschool teachers working in adapted early childhood special education programs, as well as to examine how they experience work-related burdens and which factors help them cope with them. The theoretical part discusses mental health, psychological resilience, stress, burnout, and the characteristics of the work of preschool teachers in adapted early childhood special education programs. In the empirical part, based on semi-structured interviews conducted with eight preschool teachers, it was determined that the participants experience their work as emotionally and psychologically demanding. Children's behavioural and emotional challenges, cooperation with parents, and organisational working conditions were identified as significant stressors. The findings also showed that support from colleagues, a sense of meaning in their work, children's progress, and various stress-coping strategies play an important role in maintaining psychological resilience.
